VoNR requires 5G SA infrastructure and IMS integration. This limits VoNR delivery to the four UK Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) – EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three – who own the physical 5G SA networks. MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) that resell network capacity do not control the underlying 5G SA deployment and typically do not offer VoNR SIMs.
| Operator | Network | 5G SA | VoNR consumer | VoNR enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EE | BT Group infrastructure | Deploying | Limited | Available in some areas |
| Vodafone | Vodafone UK | Deploying | Limited | Available in some areas |
| O2 | Virgin Media O2 | Deploying | Limited | Available in some areas |
| Three UK | Hutchison 3G UK | Core deployed | Enabled where SA available | Available in some areas |
Some MVNOs are beginning to explore VoNR as 5G SA coverage expands. Whether a given MVNO’s SIM activates VoNR depends entirely on the host network agreement and whether the MVNO provisions 5G SA voice services. For current MVNO VoNR availability, you will need to confirm directly with the MVNO. As a default assumption, if the MVNO does not explicitly state VoNR support, assume VoLTE is the voice mechanism.
The SIM provisioning requirements for VoNR are identical to VoLTE – ISIM on the UICC, IMS credentials provisioned by the operator. The VoLTE SIM enquiry service at voltesim.co.uk can help source the right product.
